Good Luck, Babe! was never about comp-het
The whole narrative all last year was that Good Luck, Babe! was an emotional story about the unique experience of comp-het that lesbians experience. This involves loving women, but feeling pressured by society to be with men.
But in this interview, she tells a completely different story.
Chappell, you can't be mad at your supposed best friend for not liking you back or for being straight!
How self-obsessed do you have to be to assume that she's going to regret not dating you and that she secretly has such strong emotions for you that she'd "have to stop the world just to stop the feeling"?
She originally made it seem like they had feelings for each other but were torn apart because of societal pressures. But we learn that the woman didn't even express a single interest in her or women at all.
This best friend probably doesn't even exist and is just a made up story so she can sell the "lesbian falls in love with her straight friend" cliche. And that narrative certainly launched the song very successfully, so it worked! I remember seeing so many people relate on social media because of this narrative.
BS as usual from her!
