Why are some people so afraid to be “political”?

I strongly believe that most things in life are political. I am currently volunteering with sustainability and every time we organise an event, my co-organisers actively censor “political” topics even if they come as a very natural part of the conversation. Sustainability and politics go hand in hand and I get so frustrated when people act like it doesn’t matter. It’s not just about sustainability, in general I find myself being “too political” for most people around even though I don’t actively start these conversations, but since it affects so many areas of life, it naturally comes up and I’m not shy to talk about it. What are people so afraid of? A debate?
