As Todd pointed out, Motley Crüe Power Ballads Suck - What Other Bands/Artists Suck at a Key Element or Trope of Their Own Genre/Sub-Genre?

I was in the car and my 80s playlist was on the BlueTooth speaker and "Home Sweet Home" by Motley Crue came on. While it was playing, I remembered Todd in his Motley Crue TrainWreckords video saying that Motley Crue unlike all the other hair metal bands sucked at power ballads. I don't even think "Home Sweet Home" is all that great tbh. Most glam metal and hard rock bands of the 80s had at least one great power ballad, but Mötley Crüe's ballads often feel forced or unconvincing compared to their sleazy anthems.

I think a part of it is that Vince Neil, while solid on the rockers, absolutely cannot sell the sincere emotion required of a power ballad. Poison, I actually believe Bret Michaels when he's singing a power ballad like "Every Rose Has It's Thorn" or "I Won't Forget You". Cinderella, wow, "Don't Know What You Got (Till It's Gone)" is a fantastic song with a bluesy soulful rock style vocal by Tom Keifer. David Coverdale sells the emotion on "Is This Love" (Whitesnake). But Vince can't do it.

What are some examples of bands or artists who belong to a specific genre but struggle with or fail to master one of the genre’s key trope?

I'd say in terms of hip hop, Eminem struggles with club bangers while Kanye struggles with battle-rapping and diss tracks. Eric Clapton is a great guitarist - a controversial opinion on this sub I know - but work often lacks the raw, visceral grit of blues legends like Howlin’ Wolf or even someone who came after him like Stevie Ray Vaughan.
